How Cognizant Business Started
Cognizant (formerly known as Dun & Bradstreet Satyam Software) was founded in 1994 in Chennai, India. Barely a startup with 50 employees with an ambition to concentrate on large-scale IT projects.
A new company was formed by Dun & Bradstreet in 1996 called Cognizant Corporation, which later became the parent company and got divided into two organizations—IMS Health and Nielsen Media Research.
In 1998, the company raised $34 million, less than predicted, and put the funds toward debt repayment. Cognizant’s total revenue in 2002 was $229 million with zero debt. The company expanded by abiding by maintenance projects.
In 2003, IMS Health fully emerged in Cognizant. The company appeared in Fortune magazine’s “100 Fastest-Growing Companies” list from 2003 to 2012.
In 2014, Cognizant acquired TriZetto Corp for $2.7 billion, signed a substantial contract with Escorts Group in India, and got associated with NTUC FairPrice in 2015 to improve the customer service experience.
